Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula is a new entry in the universe of Train to Busan. It takes place four years after the events of the first film, which saw South Korea overrun by a zombie apocalypse.

Well Go USA Entertainment describes the new film as follows: "Jung-seok, a soldier who previously escaped the diseased wasteland, relives the horror when assigned to a covert operation with two simple objectives: retrieve and survive. When his team unexpectedly stumbles upon survivors, their lives will depend on whether the best—or worst—of human nature prevails in the direst of circumstances."

The new film appears to take place in the post-apocalyptic world of South Korea, where the zombies of the earlier movie still terrorize survivors. Train to Busan had specifically observed the zombie outbreak spread during an enclosed train ride - with few survivors.

Train to Busan 2 sequel arriving in 2020?

Peninsula isn't thought to be a conventional sequel to Train to Busan, but rather a new story in the aftermath of the original film's events. The original film's director, Yeon Sang-ho, returns to helm the follow-up film, with new lead actors including Gang Dong-won and Lee Jung-hyun.

The new trailer doesn't confirm a release date for the film, though an August 2020 premiere was originally planned. North American viewers will hope that Peninsula once again hits streaming and video-on-demand services later this year! Fans have clamoured for more from the surprise global hit, Train to Busan, since 2016.
