'Pretty Woman': Where Is The Cast Now?
The successful romantic comedy is one of the most popular movies of the 1990s and made over $400 million Dollars at the box office - not bad for a production that only cost about $16 million Dollars...
Julia Roberts received an Oscar nomination for her role as the prostitute "Vivian Ward", who falls in love with "Edward", played by Richard Gere. Good for her, but she actually wasn't the first choice for the part: Jennifer Connelly, Molly Ringwald and Daryl Hannah were all supposed to play "Vivian", but turned it down.
When "Edward Lewis" takes his beloved "Vivian" to the opera house, they go to see a staging of "La Traviata". Ironically, the opera written by Giuseppe Verdi is about a courtesan who falls for a rich man from a good family.
In 1964, Roy Orbison recorded the original version of the song "Pretty Woman". The musician unfortunately never saw the movie, he passed away in 1988.
Richard Gere was already a well-known actor when he was cast for Pretty Woman. After his role as "Edward Lewis", Gere appeared in numerous other films like Sommersby, Chicago and Shall We Dance?, to name just a few. He is a practising Tibetan Buddhist of the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism and an active supporter of the Dalai Lama.
Hector Elizondo played the hotel manager "Bernard Thompson" in Pretty Woman. By now, the popular actor has starred in over 80 films and in many TV shows.
