The American TV series Scarecrow and Mrs. King ran from 1983 to 1987. In the crime series, the divorced housewife "Amanda King" and operative "Lee Stetson", whose code name is "Scarecrow", work for the "Agency".
Kate Jackson plays the divorced housewife "Amanda King", who is recruited by a fictional American secret service called the "Agency". At first she works as an office assistant, but as she is repeatedly involved in undercover operations she receives special secret service training. The mother-of-two ends up working as an agent alongside "Lee Stetson" and even marries her partner in the fourth season. This is what the actress looks like nowadays...
Kate Jackson received her fourth Golden Globe nomination for her role as "Amanda King". The actress appeared in countless TV and film productions after her time on the show, such as Ally McBeal, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and, most recently in Criminal Minds in 2007.
The secret agent "Lee Stetson", whose code name is "Scarecrow", was played by Bruce Boxleitner. Along with his partner "Amanda", he solves difficult cases and prevents grave conflicts, even stopping one or two wars from starting.
Boxleitner was able to lead a successful acting career after Scarecrow and Mrs. King ended. He is most known for his roles in Babylon 5 as well as Gods and Generals, but was last seen in NCIS in 2017. Bruce has been married twice and has three sons. He married press agent Verena King in October 2016.
The fact that "Amanda" and "Scarecrow" eventually ended up marrying one another wasn´t in the original script. At some point the pressure from fans was so immense that the producers had no other choice but to make it official. The two love birds married in season 4.
"Amanda" and her mother "Dotty West", played by the actress Beverly Garland, both live together with "Amanda´s" sons in one house. "Amanda´s" job is top secret which means she has to come up with numerous excuses to compensate for not spending time with her family. Therefore "Dotty" is left to take care of the kids while their mother goes on her 'business trips'. Click ahead to find out what happened to "Dotty"!
Back in the 50s, Garland was already know for her role of the strong, independent woman. She played the town's sheriff in the western film Gunslinger, in 1956, as well as run-away convict in Swamp Woman in 1955. After Scarecrow and Mrs. King she played in the series 7th Heaven. Garland sadly passed away in 2008 at the age of 82.
Even though her two sons "Phillip" and "Jamie" came first in "Amanda´s" life, they sadly did not get to see their mother all that often due to her business trips. Paul Stout's character "Phillip", played the older brother. He was nominated for the Young Artist's Award for his role in the series and went on to star in other feature films such as Meatballs Part II and Mother against Drunk Driving. Since then, he has drifted away from the spotlight.
"Phillip's" younger brother "Jamie", played by Greg Morton, left the industry after the show Scarecrow and Mrs. King. Today Morton works as an author/designer and travels the world with his wife Sandra.
"Scarecrow's" boss, "Billy Melrose", was played by the actor Mel Stewart. "Billy" is a liberal, open-minded person who cares about his employees. He was the one who decided to give "Amanda" advanced training as well as to partner her up with "Scarecrow".
Mel Stewart wasn't only a successful actor, he was also a very talented musician with his favorite instrument being the saxophone. He played roles in a number of shows such as All in the Family and Harry O. On top of that he was an acting coach at the San Francisco State University. Sadly Stewart died due to Alzheimers back in 2002 at the age of 72.
Not everybody in the workplace liked "Amanda". "Scarecrow's" colleague "Francine Desmond", played by the actress Martha Smith, constantly made fun of her because of her style as well as her motherly suggestions in the workplace. Later throughout the show, the two of them began to get along.
Martha Smith is most known for her role as "Francine" in the series Scarecrow and Mrs. King. After the show ended she played a number of secondary roles in movies like Greek and The Defenders. She has been working as a real estate agent since 1995 and even appeared in a few episodes of Selling LA.
Not much is known about the actual company "Amanda" is working for. They disguise themselves as a production company and have never revealed their actual name, not even an abbreviation. "The Agency" is involved in national as well as international operations and specialize in reconnaissance, security and secret warfare.
