CBS is in the early stages of production for Clarice, a sequel series to Silence of the Lambs. The series will take place in 1993, one year after the events of the original film starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster.
It was announced that Australian actress Rebecca Breeds will portray "Clarice Starling" in the new series.
Silence of the Lambs: A return for "Clarice Starling"
The Silence of the Lambs film was an adaptation from the novel series about "Hannibal Lectre" by author Thomas Harris. It received the film sequels Hannibal and Red Dragon, but "Clarice Starling" appeared only in Silence of the Lambs.
"Starling" also did not appear in the short-lived recent television series, Hannibal, which featured Mads Mikkelsen as "Hannibal."
CBS's Clarice: What we know so far
Clarice follows the events of Silence of the Lambs. It sees "Clarice Starling" return to her duties after the investigation seen in the film.
Rebecca Breeds takes over Jodie Foster's portrayal of "Starling" from Silence of the Lambs. Breeds is known for roles in The Originals and Pretty Little Liars.
"After more than 20 years of silence, we’re privileged to give voice to one of America’s most enduring heroes — Clarice Starling," the show's creators said.
