In exciting news for superhero fans, Tatiana Maslany is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe! The Orphan Black star will be playing the lead role of "Jennifer Walters," aka "She-Hulk," in the upcoming Disney+ series based on the character! Find out more here!

Tatiana Maslany is set to star in a new Marvel series for Disney+! As Entertainment Tonight shares, on Thursday, it was announced that Maslany has officially been cast in She-Hulk as the titular superhero.

Maslany's character "Jennifer" gets her powers from cousin

"She-Hulk" made her first appearance in the Marvel comic Savage She-Hulk #1, which was released in February of 1980. By day, "She-Hulk" is lawyer "Jennifer Walters". But after a blood transfusion from her cousin "Bruce Banner— known by comic book fans as "The Hulk"—  gives "Jennifer" the ability to "Hulk out," by night, she becomes the female version of the green superhero with anger issues.

While Maslany recently appeared in the HBO reboot of Perry Mason as "Sister Alice," she is arguably best known for playing a multitude of characters on the BBC America sci-fi drama Orphan Black. Her performances were critically acclaimed by many, and she even received an Emmy for her work on the show in 2016! In May, Maslany and the rest of the Orphan Black cast reunited for a two-episode table read fundraiser benefitting charity.

Maslany welcomed to the Marvel universe by Mark Ruffalo

Maslany may have just been cast, but the She-Hulk series has been in the works for some time! As Entertainment Tonight mentions, Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, shared that She-Hulk would be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the 2019 D23 Expo, calling it a "show unlike anything we've done before."

Mark Ruffalo, who plays the onscreen version of "Bruce Banner" in the MCU, told Variety back in April that he would potentially be interested in reprising his role for the She-Hulk show! "If we come up with something good, that would be really interesting," Ruffalo said of the possibility. Jessica Gao, who worked on Rick and Morty, has been named head writer for the series, with Marry Me's Kat Coiro set to direct.

And not long after it was announced that Maslany would officially be playing "She-Hulk," Ruffalo took to Twitter to welcome her to the Marvel universe! "Welcome to the family, cuz! @tatianamaslany #SheHulk," he tweeted at her, referencing their characters' familial bond. There hasn't been a release date set for the She-Hulk series as of yet, but we're excited to see the incredibly talented Tatiana Maslany take on such an iconic superhero!
