Here comes a childhood classic! The Goonies, written by Chris Columbus, was first released in 1985. The story revolves around a group of teenagers, who due to the expanding Country Club in their area and a foreseeable eviction from their homes, gather together to spend one last weekend together in their home town Goon Docks in the Astoria area of Oregon.
"Mikey", played by Sean Astin, is the leader of the group of kids as they search for the famous treasure of the pirate "One-Eyed Willy". He is often seen sticking up for the little guy, for instance "Chunk" when he is getting harassed by the other group members.
Sean Astin's acting debut was in the movie The Goonies back in 1985 at the age of 13. He later moved on to star in several other movies such as The B.R.A.T. Patrol, White Water Summer, Toy Soldiers and Encino Man in the early stages of his acting career. By far his biggest success was in the The Lord Of The Rings franchise in which he played the role of "Samwise Gamgee". His most recent roles have been in series like Stranger Things as well as the movie "Gloria" which is due to be released in 2018.
"Brand", played by Josh Brolin, portrays "Mikey's" older brother and is seen dating fellow group member "Andy".
Josh Brolin started his career in TV by guest starring in several different TV shows before landing his first big role in The Goonies in 1985. He later moved on to star in movies like Grindhouse and Nightwatch before landing hit roles in movies like No Country For Old Men (2007), American Gangster (2007), W. (2008) and Milk (2008). Brolin is currently set to star in various movies such as Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2 and another untitled Avengers film in 2019.
"Lawrence "Chunk" Cohen", played by Jeff Cohen, is a chronic liar and definitely the prankster in the group. He is most known for his famous little dance called the "Truffle Shuffle".
Jeff Cohen film debut was in the movie The Goonies back in 1985. Afterwards, instead of continuing his acting career, Cohen decided to go back to school to get his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He later went on to get a J.D. degree at UCLA which led him to become an entertainment lawyer. He currently works at the 'Huffington Post', writing articles on legal and political matters.
"Mouth", who is played by Corey Feldman, is one of the original Goonies and is one of the protagonists of the film alongside "Mikey". He got his nickname "Mouth" because he is in fact a smart "Mouth". Throughout the movie, it is shown that he has secret feelings for "Stef".
After his role in The Goonies, Corey Feldman moved on to star in movies like Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, and in one of his most famous roles in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. What followed afterwards was a long string of guest roles and music video appearances. His most recent movie was in the Hollywood blockbuster spoof Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! back in 2015.
"Andy", played by Kerri Green, is portrayed as a cheerleader from the gang's hometown of Astoria in Oregon. Loud-mouthed and somewhat self-centered, she is convinced by "Mikey" to go with the gang to search for "Willy's" treasure.
Kerri Green moved on to receive critical acclaim for her role in the movie Lucas starring alongside Charlie Sheen and Corey Haim. She also had a string of guest roles in shows like In The Heat Of The Night, Muder, She Wrote, E.R., and Law & Order: SVU.
"Data", played by Ke Huy Quan, is the inventor of the group and is a big fan of James Bond. Some of his inventions include "slick shoes", "boxing glove defense" and the "suction cup invention".
Jonathan Ke Quan two most famous roles have been as "Short Round" in Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom as well as in The Goonies. Quan moved on to star in several different Chinese and Taiwanese movies like Red Pirate, Second Time Around, and It Takes a Thief.
"Sloth", played by John Matuszak, is "Mama Fratelli's" son and "Francis's" brother. Throughout the story, "Sloth" builds a long lasting relationship with "Chunk".
Due to his football injury, which ultimately led him to retiring from the NFL, John Matuszak decided to focus his energy on acting throughout the 80's. He starred in several different movies and TV shows such as One Crazy Summer, Perfect Strangers, M*A*S*H and the Dukes of Hazzard. Sadly, John passed away on June 17, 1989 due to an accidental overdose of the prescription drug Darvocet. He was 38 at the time of his passing.
