On the TV show ER, "Doctor Doug Ross" (George Clooney) made (female) hearts melt all over the world. It was the caring nurse "Carol Hathaway" (Juliana Margulies), who was able to land him.
The fans of Gilmore Girls had to wait forever, until "Lorelai" (Lauren Graham) and "Luke" (Scott Patterson) finally got together. Despite all their bickering and problems with each other, they are still one of the most wonderful TV couples of all time.
In How I Met Your Mother, "Marshall" (Jason Segel) and "Lily" (Alyson Hannigan) show us all how an (almost) perfect relationship can work. They’ve been together since college and start a family over the course of the series. Meanwhile, they never forget to have fun and don’t neglect their friendships.
"Dr. Meredith Grey" (Ellen Pompeo), the protagonist of the ABC hit show Grey’s Anatomy falls in love with her new colleague, the neurosurgeon "Dr. Derek Shepherd", who everyone just calls "McDreamy". Although their relationship starts out with a few bumps and bruises, they give their love a chance and even though "Derek" passes away, it is still one of TV’s great love stories.
In The O.C., there’s actually a happy ending for a couple that could not be more different. She is every boy’s heartthrob at the local high school and he is the awkward nerd. But "Summer Roberts" (Rachel Bilson) and "Seth Coen" really end up together and they could not be more perfect for each other.
The relationship between “Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and “Elena Gilbert” (Nina Dobrev) was ill-fated at its beginning, since she was still together with "Damon’s" brother "Stefan". But after a while, "Elena" can simply not hold back her feelings any longer and they do become a couple, and one of the best ones ever to be featured on a TV show.
The story seems almost too perfect to be believed: In The Nanny, "Fran Fine" (Fran Drescher) originally comes into the "Sheffield" household to take care of "Maxwell’s" (Charles Shaughnessy) three kids, but she falls in love with her boss and they end up married.
"Joey Potter" (Katie Holmes) and "Dawson Leery" (James van der Beek) are basically best friends, but "Dawson" always had feelings for his beautiful friend. "Joey" is torn between her long-time friend and "Pacey" (Joshua Jackson), whom she likes as well. Although it starts out in a very romantic way with "Dawson", she ends up with "Pacey" after all.
At the end of the sixth season of Sex and the City, "Carrie Bradshaw" (Sarah Jessica Parker) finds her true love in "Mr. Big" (Chris Noth), whose name is actually "John James Preston". She knew he was the one all along, but it was a long (long!) and winding road until the two were able to admit to each other that they are supposed to be together.
"Buffy" (the hunter, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) and the "Angel" (the vampire, played by David Boreanaz) - this relationship always had a certain "Romeo & Juliet" vibe to it. Two people from opposing sides that end up together, only to drift apart again. A great TV romance!
For so many years, "Tony" (Michael Weatherly) and "Ziva" (Coté de Pablo" could just not get together, while NCIS fans all over the world were always hoping and wishing for them to follow their hearts. "Ziva", as the community calls them, definitely belongs on this list!
"Penny" and "Leonard" from The Big Bang Theory are another one of those ‘odd couples’ during the last 20 years of TV romance. The nerd succeeds in winning the heart of the pretty blonde, who first seemed way out of his league. And what do you know, they’re happy despite all their differences!
