'The Saint': '90s Action Movie To Be Remade By 'Rocketman' Director Dexter Fletcher
The Saint, the 1997 action movie starring Val Kilmer, is set to be remade by Dexter Fletcher. He's known as the filmmaker behind the popular Elton John biopic, Rocketman, from last year! Learn more about the new film below...
Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher has signed on to helm a new remake of The Saint. The original film starred Val Kilmer and was released in 1997.
Paramount is the studio behind the new remake. They envision the film as the first in a possible new franchise of action movies.
The Saint movie from 1997 and details on the remake
Philip Noyce directed the 1997 version of The Saint. The action film starred Val Kilmer as "Simon Templar," a thief who is also known as "The Saint." The character comes from a series of novels set in the 1920s by author Leslie Charteris.
Dexter Fletcher will now remake The Saint for Paramount following a successful few years for the director.
Fletcher made Rocketman, the Elton John biopic, in 2019. He also directed Eddie the Eagle - another film with Rocketman star Taron Egerton - and he finished directing the hit Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer dropped out midway through film.
Will Rocketman's Taron Egerton appear in The Saint?
Casting details are not yet known about the remake of The Saint. But director Dexter Fletcher has worked closely with Taron Egerton on both of his most recent films, making another reunion possible.
Egerton has portrayed The Saint's type of "globe-trotting" spy role previously in the Kingsman films. Perhaps a cameo from the original "The Saint," Val Kilmer, is also a possibility in the new movie.
