Disney has cast Yara Shahidi as "Tinkerbell" in Peter Pan & Wendy. The upcoming film is a live-action update of the Peter Pan story, which we now know will feature Black-ish and Grown-ish star Shahidi in one of the film's key roles. Here's everything you need to know about Peter Pan & Wendy and Shahidi's historic casting.

Yara Shahidi is crossing over to the big screen for a key role in Peter Pan & Wendy. The star, best known from TV's Black-ish and Grown-ish, has been cast as "Tinkerbell" in Disney's upcoming live-action Peter Pan film.

As EW reported, Shahidi will be the first woman of colour to play the Disney fairy on screen. She joins the 2021 live-action take on the classic Peter Pan story, which has so far also cast Jude Law as "Captain Hook" and child actors Ever Anderson as "Wendy" and Alexander Molony as "Peter."

It's also another of Disney's many live-action film updates. Most recently, classic titles including Mulan, Dumbo, and The Jungle Book have been remade, some also using digital animation. Others, such as Robin Hood, are also slated for the coming years.
